The World Health Organization (WHO) says the reductions in worldwide tuberculosis (TB) funding could disrupt the world’s progress ending TB.
For World TB Day on March 24, WHO is asking for more resources to preserve and advance progress. According to WHO, “Global efforts to combat TB have saved an estimated 79 million lives since 2000.”
WHO says the new funding cuts have already affected 27 countries. Those countries are experiencing disturbances in diagnostics and surveillance and shortages in important resources.
Additionally, WHO has published new technical guidance that “outlines critical actions across the care continuum, focusing on prevention, early detection of TB and comorbidities, optimized management at first contact and improved patient follow-up.”
