The World Health Organization (WHO) is establishing its 2025 Health Emergency Appeal (HEA) and is asking for $1.5 billion to aid global health.
The appeal aims to combat 42 rising global health crises and summarizes what is needed for this. According to WHO’s announcement, 305 million people are “in urgent need of humanitarian assistance in 2025.” 17 of the 42 crises are Grade 3. WHO concluded that $1.5 billion is needed to help improve the situation.
According to the appeal, the top four issues affecting the world’s health are: climate change, conflict, displacement and disease outbreaks.
WHO defines the appeal as a call to action. They aim to expand resources “to fulfill its unique role in health emergencies, while upholding the principles of international humanitarian law, ensuring that no one is left behind even in the most challenging circumstances.”
