Dallas healthcare worker who may have handled Duncan specimens is quarantined aboard a cruise ship

Oct. 17, 2014

According to news reports, a healthcare who may have processed specimens collected from Ebola patient Thomas Eric Duncan at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital is being isolated aboard a Carnival cruise ship off the coast of the Central American nation of Belize.

“The employee has been self-monitoring, including daily temperature checks, since October 6, and has not had a fever or demonstrated any symptoms of illness,” U.S. State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki says. “It has been 19 days since the passenger may have processed the since deceased patient’s fluid samples.”

CDC officials consider it extremely unlikely that the unidentified healthcare worker is infected with the Ebola virus. The government of Belize has, however, barred any passengers from disembarking from the ship. Learn more from a Reuters report via Yahoo! News.
