Elizabethtown College has added a new Medical Laboratory Science major for their students.
Interested students can begin the new major this fall. Cohorts can choose between two pathways and will gain laboratory experience. Additionally, Elizabethtown College is offering a 3+1 option where students spend three years at Elizabethtown and then one year “of specialized clinical training at an accredited medical laboratory science program, preparing them to sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification Exam to work as certified medical laboratory scientists.”
Furthermore, students can decide to complete a four-year bachelor’s degree course “that provides a strong foundation in laboratory sciences, preparing them to enter clinical training programs or pursue several career pathways including research scientist, laboratory technician, and quality control chemist.”
The institution hopes the new program will spark a love of laboratory science in students and help mitigate staffing shortages.
