The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) is updating Chapter 6 of the State Operations Manual (SOM), according to a memorandum published January 17.
Key updates:
· Modified survey and enforcement timelines.
· Budget responsibilities elaborated.
· The “incorporation of current procedures and practices for federal monitoring surveys, State Agency Performance Reviews, and revisit surveys.”
· Elimination of Form CMS-1557 in the survey process.
· Inclusion of new regulatory updates.
Additionally, CMS noted in the memo that certain previous memos are now expired as a result of the Chapter 6 updates (QSO 19-20-CLIA, S&C 16-18-CLIA, S&C 10-07-CLIA, and Admin Info 23-05-CLIA).
