HHS announces step to develop safer vaccines for children

Aug. 15, 2025

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has restored the Task Force on Safer Childhood Vaccines, according to an announcement. The goal of this action is to develop better vaccines for children.

The restored Task Force will be led by National Institutes of Health (NIH) Director Jay Bhattacharya as Chairman and will collaborate with the Advisory Commission on Childhood Vaccines. They will center on creating vaccines for children “that result in fewer and less serious adverse reactions than those vaccines currently on the market.” Additionally, they will work to better the manufacturing, distribution, and adverse reaction reporting processes.

CIDRAP reported on the news stating, “Anti-vaccine groups have long questioned the safety of routine childhood vaccines, such as the MMR vaccine. They've also promoted the idea that US children get too many vaccines too soon and that the cumulative effects have not been properly studied.”
