Dr. Oz to head CMS

April 7, 2025

Dr. Mehmet Oz was voted to lead the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) by the Senate on April 3.

Dr. Oz will be the CMS’s Administrator. The motion was confirmed by a 53-45 vote from the Senate. He will work closely with Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. on the Make America Healthy Again Campaign.

An Associated Press (AP) article written by Amanda Seitz pointed out the current issue of possible Medicaid program cuts. According to Seitz, “Oz has not said yet whether he would oppose such cuts to the government-funded program, instead offering a vision of promoting healthier lifestyles, integrating artificial intelligence and telehealth into the system, and rethinking rural healthcare delivery.” However, CMS is “expected to lose about 300 staffers,” according to AP.
