Most American adults support use of AI in healthcare

Most believe AI will raise care quality.

A Harris Poll survey administered on behalf of Gwynedd Mercy University found that most Americans believe artificial intelligence (AI) is beneficial to healthcare diagnostics, treatment, and quality.

2,099 adults were polled in mid-November, according to the announcement. Most “(77%) believe AI can effectively reduce healthcare disparities in the next five years, particularly through enhanced early detection of diseases (42%) and the use of AI-powered diagnostic tools to provide affordable healthcare options (36%).”  

Additional key findings:

·       59% of respondents believe AI-assisted diagnosis and treatment will have positive effects for patients.

·       57% said AI will lower costs associated with healthcare.

·       75% think AI should be incorporated in training and education.

·       77% said they would use AI supported healthcare.

·       Some respondents said they “would consider using AI for remote monitoring of chronic conditions (35%), predictive health alerts (33%), or virtual health assistance (31%).”

While most support the use of AI-assisted healthcare, Americans are worried about its rise (88%). 58% have hesitations regarding “the lack of human oversight.”
