AmeriCares, a nonprofit global health and disaster relief organization that delivers medicines, medical supplies, and aid to people in need around the world, presented its annual Power of Partnership Award to BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) this week in recognition of the company’s outstanding commitment to helping disaster survivors and improving health in the developing world. BD, a global medical technology company, is a longtime supporter of the aid organization’s emergency response work and ongoing health programs for people in crisis, providing both product donations and financial support that allow health workers in under-resourced communities to provide quality care.
AmeriCares President and CEO Michael J. Nyenhuis presented the award at the Healthcare Distribution Management Association’s (HDMA) Business and Leadership Conference in Phoenix, AZ. AmeriCares and HDMA created the Power of Partnership Award to recognize medical manufacturing and distribution organizations that have shown exceptional dedication to expanding access to healthcare for disadvantaged populations.
“For 28 years, BD’s commitment to AmeriCares global health and emergency response programs has helped us improve healthcare for millions impacted by poverty and disaster worldwide,” Nyenhuis says. “Whether we are aiding typhoon survivors in the Philippines, or supporting U.S. clinics serving the uninsured, BD is always there.”
BD has been a steadfast supporter of the global health and disaster relief nonprofit since 1986, donating more than $25 million in products for AmeriCares work in 94 countries. In the U.S., BD has donated more than five million pen needles and insulin syringes over the past five years for free and charitable clinics through the AmeriCares U.S. Medical Assistance Program.
