Physicians on front lines of COVID-19 patient care trust PCR test results
The majority of 100 physicians in a recent survey said they trust PRC tests to confirm an active SARS-CoV-2 infection, according to a press release from Oxford Immunotec Global PLC.
Oxford Immunotec said the survey is the first installment in a series of reports to spotlight front-line physicians’ views on critical needs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In contrast, only 56 percent of physicians expressed confidence in serology testing accuracy and/or utility in confirming PCR results or identifying patients suspected of having a prior infection. More than 60 percent said alternatives to serology and new tests for assessing immunity, vaccine responses and other patient characteristics would be valuable additions to their toolkit for managing COVID-19.
