Quest Diagnostics is marketing a RT-PCR test to diagnose COVID-19 directly to consumers through its consumer-initiated business, QuestDirect, according to a press release.
After consumers purchase the COVID-19 Active Infection test online, a licensed physician with an independent national network of physicians providing clinical oversight for QuestDirect services, reviews the order and, if deemed appropriate, orders the test. Nasal specimens are collected either at home or at a Walmart pharmacy.
The service is designed for consumers who want to order and pay for the test themselves, without going through insurance or a government program for reimbursement, according to the QuestDirect website.
Quest launched a QuestDirect COVID-19 Antibody Test in April 2020.
