The African Society of Laboratory Medicine (ASLM) announces its latest initiative: The Mapping Antimicrobial Resistance and Antimicrobial Use Partnership (MAAP) project.
Resistance to antimicrobial drugs is a major threat around the world, and lack of up-to-date data on drug resistant infections and patterns of antimicrobial use in low- and middle-income countries hinders effective actions to protect public health.
Through a grant from the United Kingdom-based Fleming Fund, MAAP will collect data on antimicrobial resistance and antimicrobial use initially across 12 countries in West, East, and Southern Africa.
MAAP’s first workshop is being held April 4-5, 2019 at the African Union (AU) Commission in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
