  • 7% said compensation and benefits
  • 5% responded professional growth opportunities
  • 12% stay because of their positive workplace culture
  • 9% enjoy the flexibility/work-life balance of their lab
  • 53% are motivated by making a difference in patient care
  • 2% answered working with cutting-edge technology
  • 12% had their own reasons such as a sense of loyalty to their lab and their patients

Specifically, those that responded “other” said:

  • I love what I do
  • I have been doing it for over 25 years
  • Only the paycheck
  • Impact/importance of our work in helping to diagnose and treat patients; flexibly in career paths and professional growth opportunities; and most importantly the NEED for laboratory professionals
  • At this point I’m too old to find anything else

Thank you to everyone that responded to our poll. The work you do is critical to quality healthcare.
