High-speed digital slide scanner

BioImageneiScan Coreo is an automated digital slide scanner, which when coupled with software, comprises a total digital-pathology solution. An automated turret allows the user to program microscope objective or magnification per slide. Features include an autoloader for scanning of up to 160 slides, automatic slide detection, automated turret with support for four objectives (4X, 10X, 20X, and 40X), and high-speed, walkaway scanning at all four magnifications. The system also features an integrated slide viewer that supports annotation and remote viewing, live telepathology with robotic microscopy, and automatic tissue-region identification with a manual override option.

On-demand slide printing at the microtome

Thermo Fisher Scientific Bringing the convenience of on-demand slide printing directly to the microtome, the SlideMate’s small footprint (about the size of a toaster) enables it to be integrated at workstations or put on shelves on top of workstations. The unit prints directly onto the slides with chemical-resistant media to ensure print reliability — eliminating handwriting labels and sorting batch printed slides. The device eliminates labels by printing in direct transfer process, and the print is resistant to most chemicals, including Xylene. The slide printer can receive the data to be printed from a variety of sources: LIS, bar-code scanner, or manual input via keyboard. Up to 150 slides are held inside the unit to protect them from dust and the environment. Throughput is typically three to 12 slides per minute, slide dependent. The machine can print on 3” x 1” or 25 mm x 75 mm x 1 mm slides with frosted or colored ends.

Safely destroy microscope slides

S&G EnterprisesThe SLYDEATER Slide Destruction System is a machine designed to pulverize glass slides and obliterate any identification affixed to the slides. The system destroys up to 10,000 slides per hour. The operator loads up to 400 slides into the chute at once, which are then pulverized with a two-step crushing system and deposited into a collection box with integrated locking lid. The glass dust can be tossed into regular trash. A high-efficiency filter system keeps fine dust from escaping outside the machine during use and box change-out. A removable, side-mounted basket holds a supply of up to 20 boxes.

Digital IHC solution with image analysis

Aperio Technologies
The digital pathology solution for immunohistochemistry (IHC) is designed to enable pathologists to run quantitative IHC image analysis while reading slides on a computer monitor. Running on the company’s ScanScope family of scanners, the solution streamlines clinical workflow by using a single system to read digital IHC slides, perform quantitative image analysis, and create professional reports. In addition, the system comes with a suite of image-analysis algorithms that can be tuned for different tissue types, stains, and reagents, or tuned to correlate algorithm results with other test methods.

Guide to good slide preparation

College of American PathologistsTo assist in ensuring consistent, proper slide preparation, Histologic Preparations: Common Problems and Their Solutions showcases common problems and ways in which they may be prevented. The book — born of a program created by the Hisotechnology Committee of the College of American Pathologists with the National Society for Histotechnology to offer laboratories objective evaluations of histologic preparations — evolved from feedback provided through this program. The illustrated chapters include fixation and processing, microtomy, frozen sections, hematoxylin and eosin, Gram stain, myobacteria, Heliobacter pylori, spirochetes, fungi, trichrome stains, reticulin, elastin stains, basement membranes,  mucin stains, amyloid, and immunohistochemistry.

Fast, economical Gram staining

The Aerospray Microbiology Stainer/Cytocentrifuge is two essential instruments in one package. With the optional rotor, the stainer becomes a cytocentrifuge with eight-slide capacity and keyboard programmability. As a slide stainer, it is fast, economical and without risk of cross contamination. With a cycle time as short as five minutes, the stainer can process more than 100 slides per hour.

Three workstations in one

The Tissue-Tek Prisma/Film Automated Slide Stainer and Coverslipper is an easy-to-use platform that combines three separate workstations for maximum productivity. An automatic link system eliminates the need for the manual transfer of slides from stainer to coverslipper. After staining, each slide receives a precisely measured coverslip. Both instruments offer load-and-go start options, and each instrument can be operated independently. The system allows continuous loading of up to 60 slides at a time with a throughput of up to 500 slides per hour.

User-friendly slide staining

The EasyDip Slide Staining System has two components: a staining jar and a 12-position vertical slide rack. Made of acetyl polymer, the jars are resistant to chemicals and dyes, autoclavable, available in different colors, and can be loosely joined to each other laterally to ensure they are kept in the same order when being moved. The lid completely covers the jar to minimize spills and evaporation.
