Saline 0.45% (3.0 mL) in a plastic tube with screw cap is for use with automated identification/antimicrobial susceptibility test systems, specifically the Vitek 2. With the ready-made Saline 0.45% (3.0 mL), instrument users can eliminate the multistep process and contamination risk associated with dispensing saline from a large bottle into a small usable plastic tube. Contained in an easy-to-use plastic tube that is optically clear for ease in adjusting the organism density in the saline, Saline 0.45% makes it easy to standardize the inoculum strength. This design is also convenient for reading with a Vitek densitometer.

Accurate detection of strep

CLIA-waived QuStick Strep A gives high levels of detection, with 91% agreement with rare culture classification (<5 colonies) and 100% agreement with 1+ culture classification (<10 colonies). These levels help with the accurate detection of positive specimens, since fewer colonies, at throat-swab collection, are required to yield a positive result. Kits contain all materials required for testing and are economical and convenient; performance is guaranteed by three internal controls. In addition, strep-A extraction tubes are available as a separately cataloged item, addressing the needs of large-volume customers. Having additional extraction tubes allows customers to use the entire kit of Strep A QuStick strips to avoid waste, decreasing cost per test.

Rapid PCT test

The VIDAS B·R·A·H·M·S PCT 20-Minute Rapid Assay assesses the risk of progression to severe sepsis and septic shock. The test detects elevated levels of procalcitonin (PCT), which indicates a bacterial infection, accompanied by a systemic inflammatory reaction. PCT is superior to other parameters due to its early and highly specific increase in response to severe systemic bacterial infections. In septic conditions, increased PCT levels can be observed three to six hours after an infectious challenge. As PCT levels are typically low in viral infections, chronic inflammatory disorders, and autoimmune processes, elevated PCT levels in sepsis give an accurate threshold to differentiate between local infections and gradations in sepsis.
