Portable non-contact vein-illumination device

AccuVeinThe AccuVein AV300 is a non-contact vein-illumination device to assist in quickly locating a suitable vein for blood draws, intravenous lines, and delivery of medications. Detecting and highlighting hemoglobin, the hand-held device scans up to 8 mm below the skin’s surface to help locate peripheral veins normally used for venipuncture. The device projects a pattern of light on a patient’s skin revealing vein position. Weighing only 10 oz., the AV300 is positioned above the patient’s skin to display a map on the skin of underlying veins. With a range of hands-free options, the device can switch between a hand-held and hands-free mode, freeing the practitioner’s hands to perform the venipuncture.

Heel lancet for newborn-screening samples

Hawaii MedicalThe NeatNick heel lancet is a sterile, single-use, disposable sharp used to make an incision in an infant’s heel for collecting a blood sample. The device features an automated sweeping blade with depth control, an easy-to-remove pull ring, and an easy-to-see arrow. A clean-edge incision from a surgical steel blade through the capillary bed of the heel means less pain for the infant. The lancet promotes free flowing of blood — reducing the need to squeeze the foot — and allows the incision to close quickly with light pressure. For safety, the blade retracts inside the plastic body and remains locked inside after use.

Improve patient safety

This Patient Identification Check System helps improve patient safety by correctly identifying the patient for specimen collection, and improving the efficiency and standardization of the collection process while reducing the turnaround time. This system gathers three important facts while the phlebotomist initiates sample collection, including the phlebotomist’s identity (scanned from an ID card), the patient’s identity (scanned from a wristband), and the order of container collection. After collection, information about the sample in the system prints bar-code labels only for the samples that have actually been collected, and is sent to the laboratory information system, streamlining workflow and reducing chance of errors.
